Meltdown
Meltdown
It's an ooey, gooey mess!
Use Meltdown to create thick, viscous drips! This glaze is highly mobile and is perfect for creating long, vertical droplets and pools of gloop at the base. Due to its volatile nature, please use Kiln Dust (60mesh silica sand). Sprinkle the silica sand on the kiln shelf and any gloopy matter that reaches the bottom will simply land on top of the sand. No kiln disasters, no scraping, no chipped ceramics. Meltdown is the only glaze that must be used with Kiln Dust.
Custom colors can be created with a +$5 charge. Email Wizard Glaze to get started!
Jar is 16oz and weighs approximately 750g when hydrated and 400 when dry.

Instructions (in depth!)
- Open jar and pour off any excess liquid. Meltdown functions better with minimum water content
- Shake or mix Meltdown.
- Meltdown works best with a pudding or frosting consistency. If you want to dry out your gloop you can leave the lid off overnight.
- Apply underglaze to your ceramics. Meltdown sticks best to an underglaze base. It is not recommended to apply gloop to an active glaze because it will melt into the other glaze.
- Apply Meltdown to underglazed ceramics. Meltdown is best for achieving long viscous drips. The more liberal the application, the longer and thicker the drips will be. Use gravity to your advantage, meltdown will drip the longest on vertical walls.
- Fire to cone 5 or 6. The glaze will melt less at cone 5 than at cone 6 (hotter)
- To protect kiln shelves you can put a layer of Kiln Dust under your ceramics to ensure no gloop sticks to kiln shelves. Kiln Dust is essential when using Meltdown, which is a highly active glaze. Meltdown will likely drip to the base when applied liberally.
- If you want to glaze the exposed underglaze you can apply a low fire glaze all over or simply around the gloop. Fire again to low fire temperature according to low fire glaze instructions. Meltdown will not melt again at this low temperature and you will have a fully glazed piece. This is a good option if you intend to use the piece for food and need to glaze over the underglaze.
Temperature: Cone 5/6
This glaze was designed for cone 5/6 temperatures. At higher temperatures this glaze will melt even more! This is not recommended because the dripping could get out of control.
Food Safe?
This glaze has not been tested for food safety, yet!
Conforms to ASTM-D 4236

Kiln Dust
Sprinkle Kiln Dust on kiln shelves. Place ceramics on top. Meltdown drips will sit on top of the sand and there will be no damage to the kiln. Kiln dust is reusable.
