Kiln Dust
Kiln Dust
PROTECT YOUR KILN SHELVES WITH KILN DUST
Apply a layer of dust to kiln shelves to protect from gloop drips. Kiln Dust will protect shelves from damage from glaze as well as protecting your ceramics. Advancer kiln shelves/Kiln wash will NOT substitute for Kiln Dust.
Reusable up to 5+ times or until the sand begins to melt and clump together.
Kiln Dust will leave a sandy texture on the bottom of the gloop that melted on the sand. You can get rid of this texture by using sand paper to smooth if necessary.
It is not necessary to buy this product from Wizard. Your local ceramics supplier should have 60 mesh silica sand. Let them know what you need it for and they should be able to help you pick out the correct sand.

What is Kiln Dust?
Silica Sand 60 mesh
How to use Kiln Dust?
Put a layer of Kiln Dust [60 mesh silica sand] underneath ceramics while in the kiln.
Meltdown + Kiln Dust = 🧡
Meltdown is volatile and likely to melt A LOT.
Put a layer of dust underneath all pieces with Meltdown just to be safe. This will allow glaze to pool at the base without damaging kiln shelves or breaking off when you take the piece out of the kiln.
Do I still need Kiln Dust if I have Advancer Kiln Shelves?
Yes! Gloop will still stick to silicon carbide shelves.
Does Kiln Dust protect against ALL glazes?
Kiln Dust protects against ALL Wizard Glazes!
We cannot confirm which external glazes are compatible.
Kiln Dust will certainly NOT protect against runny glazes which will seep through the sand. Glazes that are extremely runny: crystal glazes, etc.
